Because of council’s adversarial approach to the provincial government housing for the vulnerable was held back until the provincial government had to act unilaterally three times to build needed emergency housing and long-term facilities. It was an unheard-of situation that has made our community an embarrassment province wide. Housing is the first step to a better life for all of us, rich or poor.

We have much to do around low cost and affordable housing for the homeless, elderly, low income and single parent households.

Housing development has to serve a higher purpose than just increasing the tax base. We need to create a strategy that connects housing to transportation and existing services.

Market housing is doing fine but we need ensure it doesn’t increase sprawl and focus on infill that uses existing services.
